THE ARTIST...

Hi, I’m Carrie Luc, the artist behind Watercolor Misfit. I'm a proud fur mommy to two mischievous pups, Teddie and Pepper. Plus the wife to the most astounding husband I could ask for. My favorite past times are drinking my morning cup of coffee - while getting caught up on my latest manga, anime, or Korean drama before work. I have to say - I’ve always been a sucker for foreign films and loved learning about other cultures. When I’m not catching up on my latest films - I’m usually working around the house and listening to my favorite tunes. I’m pretty much a home body. I love to stay at home and either work in my art studio or take the dogs around the block for a walk. When I do go on trips, I make sure my camera is always at my side ready to take reference photos for my art at a given moment.

MY ARTISTIC BACKGROUND...

I’m completely self taught - however I did take many watercolor classes from a variety of instructors over the years. The problem was many of them were just really bad teachers. As an example one just sat at the back at the classroom and played solitaire on her phone while all 24 or her students painted. we had no instruction other than “just feel the paint.” You would think I would have given up on watercolor, but actually the opposite was true. Despite my horrid instruction, I feel more and more in love with the art form. But quickly learned that I didn’t use watercolors the “traditional” way. Hence the reason I call myself a Modern Watercolor Artist. In high school and into college, I soon began teaching others in small classroom settings how I painted with watercolor. Some of my students even won awards for their art pieces which made me all the more proud. As time marched on, I soon graduated with a Masters of Education Degree for Elementary and Early Childhood and was just a few classes shy of having an art minor. My plan was to use art therapy in my classroom and help students with varying learning differences. Fast forward to today, and strangely enough I’m kind of back where I started. Teaching art and sharing my experiences along the way.

WATERCOLOR MISFIT'S BEGINNING...

I started Watercolor Misfit shortly after getting married to my husband in 2012. To be honest, I was in the dumps due to some pretty severe health issues and just wanted an escape. Art had always been therapy for me - so my husband, Stephen, recommended trying to create a YouTube channel. Previous to this, I had never shared my art with ANYONE! It was terrifying at first - but soon became a safe heaven for me to interact with others who were just “trying this thing called watercolor.” As I began to share with others my love for watercolor - I also began to grow in my artistic talents as well as learn more about myself in the process. Shortly after creating the site, YouTube channel, I next began creating courses and even drawing templates for others to play around and learn with me. Which brings us to where we are today. Today - Watercolor Misfit has a following of over 100k and is run by my husband and I plus a small team helping grow the site even further. I have such big plans and can’t wait to see what the future holds!
